Burning boat Mykonos was created to honour all those who must venture as migrants and refugees and are transformed as a result.
The burning boat in this context symbolises the burning of the men, women and children from the inside as a result of the journey they must leave on, away from their homes to unknown inner and outer destinations. The journey, no matter how it ends, causes travellers to never be the same again.
In the safe situation they are in, the participants of the gathering seek to honour travellers and lost souls who are or were on the journey through the symbolic burning of the boat at sea.
